Christy Hopkins//Artist Statement

I paint intuitively. Unless it’s a commission piece, I rarely have a roadmap going in.  The painting becomes alive during my process of layer making. Then in finding the story and building it out.

In my studio there’s always music. Often my work is gestural to a beat or lyric. Always present in the moment. Music is a huge component to my creative process.

As I build a painting, it’s crucial for me to recognize that exact time where I know intuitively which way to go, to release control and let the process guide me. That is when the painting and I become connected.

I have boundless energy and feelings to express and painting is my language.

The textures are endless and overlapping as Christy’s paintings are made in layers. Layer making is critical to her process as the work changes and develops as each new layer comes alive.

Christy was featured in ArtFOLIO2021, “One of the World’s Most Exciting Artists” collection. This is a curated publication that has a collection of the best in abstract and contemporary work as decided on by a jury of professional artists, museum curators, gallery owners, art consultants & collectors.

Recently, Christy’s art was featured in Vogue Living’s March 2024 edition. And her art has also caught the eye of renowned art critic, Jerry Saltz!

You can see large, custom installs at Shibuya Listening Lounge in Seattle and Earls Restaurant in Bellevue, WA.

Christy has exhibited at “The Other Art Fair” LA sponsored by Saatchi Art. This is an international art fair featuring a global collection of emerging talent.
