My art is a story emerging from mixed collections of emotions, memories, music and images. When I discovered this expression of art, I felt like I was set free. It’s derived from strong feelings, sometimes upsetting, sometimes joyous but always true.  It’s a reflection of my personality; fiery, energetic, moody, vibrant, chaotic.

Most of my work is a myriad of different styles, that’s because all painters evolve but not exclusively.  Tools play a significant part in the outcome of any given work.  My toolkit consists of so many different type of tools (brushes, oil sticks, paint markers, acrylic pencils, color shapers, sponges, credit cards, wood boards) and each will produce their own unique effect.  My work is a combination of several layers, usually a minimum of 5-7 whereas I incorporate different tools at every layer.  Thus creating depth, complexity and sometimes even a 3D effect by the background color and layering techniques.

One common theme with my work is the “messy layer” where I’m trying to find my bones. The “bones” are my roadmap of a painting. This is how I determine the way a painting will go, all by the process in real time.  I start by drawing marks, adding color to those marks, then seeing where the minimal space should be and where I should start to build color.  I build color blocks, where each color area is resting, or has legs to another – a constant dance to achieve the composition I strive to express what my mind can see.

My work is endlessly vibrant, with the strokes mirroring my gestures.  I hand-mix all of my colors, and rarely use a color straight out of a tube.  One color can be 12+ colors with mixing, and thus creates a sophisticated palette of muted, bright and defining colors. If you were to visit my home studio, you’d see large canvases nailed to a wall. Stacks of framed works in progress in all corners bleeding into the hallway. I paint on the floor and standing up, usually to music.

I think all artists’ work is a mix of blood, sweat and tears. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see my videos of paintings being drenched in water, or throwing black all over a piece (in frustration) then going back an hour later to delightfully create a most beautiful piece of art.

It’s all a delicious and exhilarating process. A process that is as invigorating and free to me as I hope my work brings to you.  Look around, and if you want to hear more about any specific piece, please fee free to reach out via email or Instagram!

Cheers, thanks for stopping by!
